The Å®Óźϼ¯ has promoted two longtime Å®Óźϼ¯ employees.
Erika Van Flein, formerly benefits administrator for Å®Óźϼ¯ Human Resources, has been named director of benefits. She replaces Mike Humphrey, who recently left the System Office to serve as executive officer for Å®Óźϼ¯A Chancellor Tom Case. Brandi Berg, formerly assistant to Board of Regents’ Executive Officer Jeannie Phillips, has been named to Phillips’ post. Phillips recently accepted a position in the Å®Óźϼ¯F Chancellor’s Office.
In the benefits position, Van Flein oversees employee benefits administration, including health care, retirement, disability and life insurance, for some 4,600 benefits-eligible employees across the state. The lifelong Fairbanks resident joined the university in 1990, working in University Relations at Å®Óźϼ¯F. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin.
In the regents’ position, Berg serves as primary support staff to the Board of Regents, the 11-member governing body of the Å®Óźϼ¯ System. The longtime Fairbanks resident joined Å®Óźϼ¯ in 2002, serving first at the Å®Óźϼ¯ Foundation and then moving to the regents’ office in 2008. Prior to joining Å®Óźϼ¯ she spent 19 years in the travel industry as a senior travel consultant in Fairbanks.
